2012 Bring it On!

First Off…

It’s been WAY too long since I have posted a blog entry.  I realize no one is really beating down the cyber door of my blog, but I’m going to work this year on being more diligent with posting anyways.  After all, you never know what can happen.

2011 was a very busy year for me and I’d like to send BIG thanks out to all my clients.  You guys rock!!  You have helped make my dream a reality, and I feel very lucky to be a working photographer.   There have been some changes around my site as well, I dove into some new branding with the help of my good friend Rodd Chant over at Parlor Creative, and have separated some departments of my business onto their own websites.  Thanks Rodd!  I’ve also revamped this site to show my personal work that include some street work, some people work, and some landscape work.  You will also find some new photo projects here.  This site will grow to be an avenue for other photographic adventures that I’m looking to pursue in my life.  A personal goal is to start building some very specific portfolios to focus on some more commercial directions, as well as building some great personal projects that are soon to come.  One of these I’m very excited to start working on and I’ll reveal more about it in time!

Headshots

Headshots in 2011 just rocked, awesome clients, and some awesome results.  When it comes to headshots both of us have to be working hard so I take my hat off to all my headshot clients that brought their “A” games and knocked their sessions out of the park!  I wish the best for all of you!  You can find the new headshots page at NYC Headshots by Dylan Patrick Photography

All my shoots are done outside, and I’ve been exceptionally happy with the results.  I’ve been wanting to move headshots into a slight environmental portrait area while still maintaining all the things casting directors and agents look for.  The idea is to create a dynamic image that looks like its been pulled from a film still.  I’ve been mixing natural and artificial light constantly which helps me deliver eyes that pop and draw you in.   The natural light blends well with the artificial creating a very natural look with nice skin tones.  I’m very excited to see what 2012 brings and continue to build a portfolio of very talented people!

Hospitality

This is a recent development of my business that has been a truly awesome experience.  At the beginning of 2011 I got involved with a hospitality company and have now created another website to market this direction as well.   It’s been rewarding in a learning sense as well as monetary which has helped keep prices down for my actor friends.

Before I moved to NYC I used to build custom homes and have always had a love of architectural photography, and so when approached to shoot hotels for Amsterdam Hospitality, I jumped at the chance.  I knew nothing of hospitality work, but have always enjoyed photographing lines and spaces, so the key was to develop dynamic high end images that make you want to lay in that bed or sit at that bar.  It’s a constant learning process as each client is different but I’m very excited to be in this field and I’m actively pursuing expansion on this front.  I’ve also been shooting for bars and rester aunts in NYC and one thing I have found is Hospitality is an industry constantly in need of photography.  For more on Dylan Patrick Hospitality Photography click here
